Model Making
The brief was to design a simple pavilion structure in order to develop our knowledge in structure. Research was to be conducted into structural frame including spans, junctions and footings, as well as exterior cladding and how this connected to structure.
A place to rest, meditate and rejuvenate, Surya Namaskar or “Sun Salutation” Pavilion has been designed to replace the existing lookout along the walking path at Tennyson Dunes. The elevation of the site provides views of both the sunrise over hills to the east and sunset over Tennyson beach to the west. As such viewing spaces have been placed on both sides of the main shelter which provides shade from the elements and allows space for group yoga or exercise classes both during the day, and in the evening thanks to the upward facing lights surrounding the top deck.
